Vision 2017

In 2017 we will focus on three key areas to help realise our Vision as a church of Love Jesus, Love Other and Serve The World:-

1. Increasing Connection with our Community
2. Increasing Connection with our God
3. Resourcing the Vision

1. Increasing Connection with our Community

The goal of our church vision is to align everything we do with the core task of helping people love Jesus and follow Him.  In 2017 we long to see many more people across our community filled with the love of Jesus.  Our priority in 2017 is to increase the church’s connection with the community and to share the love of Jesus more widely by focusing on:

Sunday services.

We want to ensure each Sunday service is a welcoming time of fellowship, worship, teaching and prayer for all ages.  To this end we want to ensure our largest 10.30am Sunday gathering is as welcoming to newcomers as possible.  With this in mind we want to reimagine our monthly all age service to create an engaging and seeker friendly environment for all ages.

Cafe Growth.

We hope to build on the success of the St Mary’s Café by extending opening hours in 2017 and increasing our prayerful presence amongst our customers.

We want to continue to offer a range of courses that both equip the congregation and reach out into the community.  Alongside Alpha, Parenting, The Bereavement Journey and New Beginnings (for divorced and separated people) we will also offer the Marriage Course, Mindfulness from a Christian Perspective, and a self-confidence building course.

Prayer on the streets.

Connect on the streets has pioneered a regular presence on Saturday mornings on Walton Road offering prayer to passers by.  We are very excited about the potential to connect, care, bless and witness our faith to people by offering prayer in the public place.  Only small numbers have been involved with this initiative thus far, and we have plans to encourage far greater numbers to participate.

Connect Groups.

We will build on the life of Connect Groups in 2017 by ensuring a range of outward looking groups that build community and develop discipleship each term.  We will continue to work hard on ensuring Connect Groups engage with the wider community as well as provide fellowship for church goers.

Reaching out across Molesey.

Plans are underway for an exciting and challenging project starting in 2017 which will involve working with other parishes to reach out to the wider community in Molesey. If you’re looking for a challenge please contact Richard or Alex for more information!

2. Increasing Connection with our God

God longs to transform our relationships with one another and our purpose in life: to love others and serve the world. Our vision is to grow as disciples by taking our next step as followers of Jesus which could be:

Explore Christian faith more deeply by going on Alpha or attending Connect Grow to develop understanding of Christian lifestyle; or by attending our Baptism Preparation Programme including a short course and meeting up with a church family if you want to explore baptism for your child. Could your next step be leading in some capacity – from being a Mentor to helping lead a Team or Connect Group?  Please speak to a member of the St Mary’s Staff Team to discuss leading further. (Read more)

3. Resourcing the Vision

Our vision of helping people connect with the Love of Jesus and then grow as His followers continues to require resourcing; prayer, buildings, staff and finance.

Staff Team:

Alex Munro will be ordained in June and he and Helen will no longer be with us in their current roles at St Mary’s.  We therefore need to pray for, seek and appoint new members to our staff team.  Our buildings are being used throughout the week which is very exciting but also brings administrative challenges.  In 2017 we hope to create a small part-time post to help Jo Rogers with the administration of the church so that we can make the most of our new opportunities.

Our buildings are a great asset and we need to continue to improve them to cater for all who come to St Mary’s.  In 2017 we will be forming a small group to look at cost effective ways we can increase space and capacity within the existing church buildings in 2018.

We need to depend on God more and lift to Him everything we seek to do.  We are therefore launching a monthly prayer meeting between 8pm and 9pm on the 3rd Sunday of the month.

Our budget to resource all the ministry at St Mary’s is £170,000 for 2017, a net increase of 8% reflecting a slight rise in parish share and inflation.  We’d love every worshipper at St Mary’s to pray about how much they should give  to share in realising this vision.  God will bless your sacrificial generosity.
