St Mary’s COVID-19 Update – May

We really want to support you and our communities as much as possible at this time.  Please read below for our latest plans for this week and for pastoral care and spiritual support:

This week

We regret to say that, in the light of the Government guidelines, there will be no public gatherings at St Mary’s Church.  Therefore, Sunday services, Little Moles, Cafe along with children’s and youth events will be cancelled until further notice.  However more and more of our ministry is now on-line.

We will be live streaming our service from 10.30am this Sunday.
You can watch live on YouTube here.   There will also be a 9am Holy Communion service available on our YouTube channel.

We will continue to send out regular emails and posts.  Video messages of encouragement are being filmed and sent out each week by leaders at St Mary’s and you can view these on our YouTube channel.  If you are not currently receiving our email updates please contact us at church.office@smem.org.uk with your details so you can be added. You can also keep up to date with us via social media:

Online Prayer Meeting

We are holding a weekly Prayer Meeting via Zoom each Wednesday at 8pm.
A link to join will be sent by email. If you do not receive emails from St Mary’s please contact us at church.office@smem.org.uk to be added.

ALPHA ONLINE

We are hosting an online Alpha Course on Tuesday evenings beginning 28 April using Zoom. This is a great opportunity to explore faith, meaning and purpose during this difficult time.   Each Alpha will begin at 8pm and consist of a 30 minute film followed by discussion on Zoom.  The evening will end by 9.15pm. More details are available here.  Please email register if you would like to participate.

Pastoral Care

We’ve got a great team providing pastoral support for elderly and vulnerable people in our congregations and community.  Please email info@smem.org.uk if you would like to discuss pastoral care further.

Community support

St Mary’s Cafe has been a wonderful place where we welcome people from across the community to experience fellowship, hospitality and Christian love and support.  Kate Lee has volunteered to co-ordinate our response with other community groups to ensure we help and serve those most in need and in isolation. Please contact Kate if you’d like practical support at this time or if you would like to support others – kate.lee@smem.org.uk

Spiritual support for those in self-isolation

If you are in self-isolation may I encourage you to look at the resources we are using for Pattern Groups and that mirror our sermon series – these can be found here – https://pattern.org.uk/practices  If you have joined a Pattern Group and are in self-isolation, do consider using the WhatsApp group function to meet with your Pattern Group remotely.

Bible in One Year App

This App is fantastic with daily Bible readings and wonderful commentary from Nicky Gumbel – www.bibleinoneyear.org

Pattern Groups

If you are in self-isolation / unable to attend church, may I encourage you to look at the resources we are using for Pattern Groups and that mirror our sermon series – these can be found here – https://pattern.org.uk/practices   If you have joined a Pattern Group and are in self-isolation, do consider using the WhatsApp group function to meet with your Pattern Group remotely.  To use WhatsApp group call, press the Calls button along the bottom of the screen and then the phone+ symbol on the top right of your device and then press New Group Call at the top of the screen just below the search bar.  This will enable you to select up to three others to join you by video.

A Prayer for Deliverance from the Coronavirus

May God bless you all at this difficult time.  Let’s pray for one another, pray for and bless our neighbours in any way we can, and ask for God’s peace and healing.
