Our Beliefs
The ancient church father St. Augustine offers a helpful statement on any church’s shared beliefs, “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In everything, love.”
St Mary’s proclaims the Apostles’ Creed as our Statement of Faith. The Apostles’ Creed is the foundational creed of Christian churches. Most of the creed dates from the early 2nd century.
This Creed has stood the test of time as a standard of what Christians from every part of the Body of Christ believe. It is more than an intellectual checklist of doctrine; it is a confession of worship that forms us as the people of God and draws us together into the life of the Father, Son and Holy Sprit.
Therefore, we have fellowship with the world wide Christian Church who profess their faith as follows:
The Apostles’ Creed
We believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic (universal) church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
